  • I hope you're right. I'm hearing the boy might have to leave school, get a lawyer, and that his future at university is imperiled. I'd hate to think that is possible.

  • A guy rushes you and forces you against the wall, you have a sword, you will use it. That is what happened to the boy. He's a nice kid and this is horrible for him. John and his roommates meant to scare the robber off. Nobody expected that the criminal would charge at him instead.

  • Fortunately, there WERE witnesses. It was self-defense. My daughter knows the boy and he never expected the robber to charge at him. Very traumatic.

  • FYI I just got home and found out this samarai wielder is actually an acquaintance of my daughter's. I want everyone to know: This boy is a smart, funny kid -- a brilliant student whose standing at university is now in jeopardy.

  • Family needs counseling.  No kid should be that desperate to hide a report card. And to those of you wanting to see the kid "scared straight" in jail:  Lighten up.  The child is only eleven years old and sounds as if he's already fearful enough.

  • I don't know about men who "become domineering and abusive" as they get older, but obviously a woman needs to watch that he doesn't control all the money....ever.

  • She should if she wants! I'm glad I did, my daughter says she's glad I did, and it was the BEST use of my liberal arts degree!

  • Choosing Palin made a lot of folks question McCain's judgement, and alienated anyone not of the wingnut "base." It was a boneheaded move.
